Now we look up
and see the imprint
of your everlasting smile
in the canopy of the stars
_ Eugene Skeef (For S. Seakhoa)
Eleven days have passed since the World, Africa, and the African literary ecosystem lost one of hers, Sindiswa Seakhoa, who died from health complications.
Speaking on the death of his wife to South Africa’s Daily Sun, Raks Morakabe Seakhoa said, “she started having shortness of breath and was taken to hospital.”
“They put her on an oxygen treatment for eight days and that cleared. She didn’t have Covid-19. She then had this condition we cannot talk about for now and was in hospital for a month,” he said.
“My family and I are devastated. She was a leader and anchor, particularly to me as her husband. We are going to miss her deeply.”
Sindiswa Seakhoa is regarded as one of the founder of South African Literary Awards (SALA), which:
“pays tribute to South African writers who have distinguished themselves as ground-breaking producers and creators of literature”
The award also celebrates “literary excellence in the depiction and sharing of South Africa’s histories, value systems, philosophies and art.”
