James Curry Literary Society was founded in 2021 to honor James Curry for his tremendous role in African Literature. The first edition of the James Curry Literary festival was held from the 1st to the 3rd of September, 2022 at Weston Library, University of Oxford, Broad Street, Oxford.

Sponsored by several organisations such as the British Council, the University of Oxford, British Airways, African Studies Center, Waterstones, etc., the society aims to create projects that will keep the legacies of James Currey alive anddevelop African politics, culture, and studies.

Under the auspice of the James Currey Society, the James Currey Prize for African Literature, founded by Dr Onyeka Nwelue, awarded this year’s prize to Rose Okeke for her novel Child of the Corn.

Among the other activities of the festival, the James Currey Lifetime Achievement Award for Literary Criticism was awarded to Ikhide Ikheloa on Friday for his “daring review of creative works”.
