The “thought provoking” play, Grit, was announced on Friday by Akachi Adimora- Ezeigbo, chairperson of the advisory board for the prize, as the winning play for the annual NLNG’s $100,000 Literature Prize.

Grit won the bold battle between two other beautiful plays on the shortlist of three, The Ojuelegba Crossroads by Abideen Abolaji Ojomu and Henry Akubuiro’s “Yamtarawala – The Warrior King.”

Before now, Gomba, a Literature and Creative Writing Lecturer at University of Port Harcourt, has made fierce attempts at the prize, five times, and appeared in the 11 longlists and 3 shortlists three times, respectively.

The results were announced on October 13, 2023, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
