Ankara Press, the commercial fiction imprint of Cassava Republic, is inviting submissions of full-length commercial fiction and nonfiction from Black writers across the globe. Dedicated to publishing bold, page-turning stories for Black readers across Africa, the Caribbean, the UK, the US, and the wider diaspora, the imprint is seeking books that reflect the richness, complexity, and diversity of Black life.
The publisher is looking for a wide range of genres, including romance, women’s fiction, horror, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction, and middle-grade fiction. They are especially interested in emotionally compelling, voice-driven stories featuring unforgettable characters, from morally grey anti-heroes and intergenerational family dramas to speculative worlds, folk horror, summer camp adventures, and Black children experiencing joy, humour, and wonder.
Every submission is read by the editorial team. While writers whose manuscripts are not selected will receive a standard response, authors whose work resonates with Ankara Press will be contacted to discuss the next steps. The imprint is committed to building long-term publishing relationships with writers who are ready to grow their careers alongside an internationally recognised African publisher.
