The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships is offering scholarships for international students, researchers, and artists to pursue higher education and research in Switzerland. Funded by the Swiss Confederation through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), these prestigious scholarships aim to strengthen international academic cooperation and promote research excellence at leading Swiss universities and institutions.

Through these scholarships, students and researchers gain access to world-class education, international networking opportunities, and valuable academic experiences that contribute to their future careers.”

Applications are open and they close according to countries. Each year, the Swiss Government awards scholarships to applicants from more than 180 countries. The program supports Research Fellowships, PhD Scholarships, Postdoctoral Scholarships, and Arts Scholarships, enabling talented individuals to study, conduct research, and develop their professional expertise in one of the world’s most innovative and academically advanced countries.

For applicants to qualify, he or she must meet the following eligibility:

  • Must be a citizen of an eligible country.
  • Must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the selected scholarship category.
  • Must hold the required academic qualification for the intended study level.
  • Must demonstrate strong academic performance and research potential.
  • Must meet the language requirements of the host institution.
  • Must submit a complete application before the deadline.
  • Additional country-specific requirements may apply.

Four categories are awarded yearly. The first category, which is the research scholarships, receives CHF 1,920 as monthly stipend and last for 12 months. PhD Scholarships which makes the second category support international students beginning a doctoral degree at a Swiss University. They receives CHF 1,920 for up to 36 months and it’s subject to renewal.

Postdoctoral Scholarships are available for researchers who have recently completed their doctoral studies and wish to conduct research in Switzerland. Each successful applicants receives CHF 3,500 monthly for up to 12 months. The last category is the Arts Scholarships which are available for students pursuing their first Master’s degree in artistic fields such as music, visual arts, design, and performing arts. Successful applicant receives CHF 1,920 for up to 12 months.

  • Motivation letter
  • Research proposal
  • Academic transcripts
  • Degree certificates
  • Support letter from a Swiss academic supervisor
  • Short CV of the Swiss supervisor
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Proof of admission (for PhD applicants)
  • Medical certificate
  • Passport copy
