The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) is open for its 2027 research fellowship programme. The fellowship programme supports emerging architectural history scholars from historically marginalized groups whose research challenges established paradigms or explores under-recognized areas of the field.
“The SAH IDEAS Research Fellowship is an initiative of the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) designed to support a more diverse and inclusive community of architectural history scholars. Established in 2022, the fellowship responds to structural inequities within the field and the broader academic community. It provides emerging scholars with financial assistance, professional mentorship, and opportunities to connect with peers.”
The program is particularly intended for scholars who self-identify as members of groups that have been historically marginalized by SAH and academia more broadly. The fellowship is open to emerging scholars worldwide who meet the program’s academic and enrolment requirements.
Acceptable research topics in architectural history includes:
- Challenges established scholarly paradigms
- Addresses under-recognized subjects
- Develops emerging areas of research
- Responds to structural inequities
- Expands the diversity of architectural historical scholarship
- Examines topics or perspectives that have historically received limited academic support
Selected fellows receive a $1,000 award, one year of digital Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) membership, senior mentorship, and peer support throughout the fellowship year.
Eligible applicants must:
- Be emerging scholars in architectural history or a closely relevant area.
- Self-identify as members of groups historically marginalized by SAH and/or academia more broadly.
- Have received a terminal master’s degree or Ph.D. on or after June 1, 2021.
- Be available to participate throughout the fellowship period.
- Not currently be enrolled in further studies during the fellowship period.
- Not be applying for further studies during the fellowship period.Who Is Eligible?
