WIPO Japan opens short-term fellowship programme for international students currently enrolled in Japanese University. The five-day programme provides participants with practical exposure to intellectual property (IP) through training and workplace experience at leading Japanese patent law firms.
“The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Japan Office, with support from the Funds-in-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global initiative is particularly interested in students who have interests in intellectual property law, innovation, technology, international development or careers with organisations such as WIPO and the United Nations.”
Applications are opened and will close on September 13, 2026. Applicants can select from one of two proposed training periods: November 24-30, 2026, or November 30-December 4, 2026. Although participation in the programme is free, selected participants may receive financial support for certain costs. Depending on their residential location, eligible expenses related to travel to the programme venue and accommodation may be remunerated.
Additionally, applicants must hold foreign nationality from countries classified as developing by World Bank or United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Index. But they must enrolled at a Japanese university or graduate school. They also be able communicate in English and Japanese, and must have interests in intellectual property law or related fields.
Interested students must complete the official application form and submit it together with a CV written in either Japanese or English. Applications should be sent to the WIPO Japan Office by the stated deadline.
Following the initial application stage, selected candidates may be invited to participate in a further assessment and/or interview.
