Award winning Nigerian Writer and editor Ope Adedeji will lead the Saraba Manuscript Project’s first editorial training workshop, a three-week programme focused on the editor’s role in shaping clear, compelling and publication-ready work for digital audiences. The workshop, titled The Editor’s Role – From Draft to Distribution, will take place online on Saturdays from October 17 to 31, 2026, with sessions running from 2 to 4:30 p.m. GMT. The training costs £50 and is limited to 10 participants.

This training will explore the editor’s role in shaping clear, compelling and publication-ready work for digital audiences.” The workshop will examine editing as more than sentence-level correction, focusing instead on the decisions involved in making a story readable, engaging and ready for publication. Across three sessions, participants will explore editorial judgement, working with writers, structural editing, language and voice, accuracy and fact-checking, headlines, presentation and the process of taking a story from its first read to final copy. The final session will look beyond publication at how editors can think about distribution, resurfacing stories and building connections with audiences.

Participants will leave the workshop with practical approaches to assessing manuscripts, strengthening writing without erasing the writer’s voice, developing useful editorial feedback, applying house style and managing the wider lifecycle of a story. The programme will also culminate in an individual editorial checklist designed to support participants in their work as online editors. Through the workshop, Saraba Manuscript Project extends its work with African writers into editorial training, while bringing Adedeji’s experience as a writer and editor to a new generation of editors and publishing professionals.
