The Bosberg Book Writing is both open for application and for residency. Mentored by the Jakes Gerwel Foundation, they are delighted to invite writers to apply for the following residency programmes in 2026 that are offered at their Paulet House in KwaNojoli (Somerset East).
Emerging writers are invited to apply in one of three categories: novels, short stories, or poetry. Upon completion of this intensive development programme, the writer is assisted in submitting their manuscript for publication to an appropriate publisher.
They defined established writer as “someone who has published two or more works with major publishers; has received recognition for their work or is widely known within their genre; and/or earns a portion of their income from writing in that genre.”
“We define an emerging writer as someone of any age who is still in the early stages of their writing career in a specific genre, and who has not had the necessary support or exposure to receive major recognition for their work in this genre.”
Although there is no cut-off date for applications, the final selection is made in November in the preceding year.

- Manuscript
- Novel: at least 20 000 words
- Short story: at least 2 000 words
- Poetry: 15 poems or more (in one document)
- Motivation letter that explains, among other things, how you will benefit from the residency.
- Preference is given to writers who have already received positive feedback from a publisher. This is not mandatory, but if available, the writer should attach a letter of recommendation from the publisher.
