The Caine Prize for African Writing and Pa Gya! Literary Festival have opened applications for a three-day self-editing workshop for emerging and established writers in Accra. Hosted by the British Council and supported by the Open Society Foundations, the workshop will take place from October 14 to 16, 2026, at the British Council on Liberia Road. The programme is designed for writers working on a specific piece of literary fiction – a short story, novel, or essay – and is particularly interested in work exploring social justice themes.
Rather than focusing on producing new work, the workshop will help writers develop the critical eye needed to take an existing draft towards publication. Sessions will cover How Editors Read, Structural Editing, Line Editing and Language, and Submission Readiness, with participants working on their own manuscripts in a collaborative environment. The programme is open to both emerging writers and published authors who want to strengthen their editorial practice, exchange knowledge with other writers, and receive feedback while developing a work-in-progress.
Up to 15 writers will be selected through an application process requiring a writing sample and details of the work they intend to develop during the workshop. Attendance is free, but selected participants must commit to all three days, with sessions running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, including a lunch break. Applications close on September 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., making the workshop an opportunity for writers in Ghana and elsewhere who can attend in Accra to work closely on the often overlooked craft of revision.
