The University of Turku in Finland is inviting applications for its 2027 research fellowship opportunities through the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS). The call offers four Collegium Fellow positions, four Postdoctoral Fellow positions and seven TIES2 Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND fellowship positions.
All successful fellows will receive three-year appointments beginning in September 2027, providing researchers with the opportunity to develop their academic careers in an international research environment.
Applications are open from 18 September to 13 November 2026. The TIAS fellowships are designed for researchers at different stages of their academic careers. Applicants can apply through the fellowship category that corresponds to their career stage and eligibility.
TIAS currently hosts three categories of fellows, with different career-stage requirements.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellows: The TIES2 Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND fellowship is available to researchers who are within eight years of having passed their PhD. Applicants for TIES2 must also satisfy the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie mobility rule.
Postdoctoral Fellows: The Postdoctoral Fellow category is intended for researchers who are within five years of having passed their PhD. This opportunity is particularly relevant to researchers who have recently completed doctoral studies and are looking to establish or strengthen their independent research careers.
Collegium Fellows: The Collegium Fellow category is aimed at early-to-mid-career researchers who are within 12 years of having passed their PhD. This category provides an opportunity for researchers with established postdoctoral experience to pursue further independent research and develop their academic profile.
According to the University of Turku, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity, including work or studies, in Finland for more than 12 months during the 36 months immediately preceding the call deadline.
There are benefits to getting accepted for the scholarship. Successful fellows appointed through the TIAS programme will be employed for three years.
In addition to their salary, fellows receive an annual research allowance of €3,800. The allowance can support eligible research-related activities and expenses during the fellowship.
The three-year period also gives researchers an extended opportunity to focus on their research while becoming part of the academic environment at the University of Turku.
For international researchers, the programme can provide an opportunity to conduct research in Finland and develop connections within a major European university research environment.
