FAPESP Young Investigator Grant for International Researchers
The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) invites international researchers to apply for the FAPESP Young Investigator Grant for International Researchers. This call seeks to attract up to 20 outstanding researchers to establish or consolidate their research careers at institutions in the State of São Paulo.
FAPESP is a public foundation from the State of São Paulo, Brazil, supporting research projects across all fields of knowledge at higher education and research institutions throughout São Paulo. The FAPESP Young Investigator Grant for International Researchers is designed to strengthen São Paulo’s scientific and technological leadership by attracting researchers with internationally recognized expertise.
Applications are open for submitting full proposals until November 19, 2026. Successful applicants receive monthly fellowship stipends at fapesp.br/3162, and maximum funding available per proposal at BRL 2,500,000.00 (capital and other eligible research budget items requested via SAGe, within FAPESP rules).
To be eligible, applicants must have been living and working abroad for at least two years after PhD, including research institutions and postdoctoral/fellowship/permanent academic or research appointments.
Applicants must wish to establish a research laboratory and develop a dedicated research program at an institution located in the State of São Paulo, ensuring full integration and commitment to the proposed project and position.
Eligible topics are as follows:
- Biotechnology
- Energy transition
- Biodiversity, sustainable production and food security
- Digital transition and artificial intelligence
- Quantum science and technology
- Human and animal health
- Public security
Artificial intelligence note: Proposals approved under artificial intelligence will be affiliated with the São Paulo Artificial Intelligence Research Center, a strategic center supported by FAPESP, MCTI/CGI.br, and São Paulo State Universities. The proposal may include only one scholarship/fellowship per modality (PhD, MSc, Scientific Initiation, Postdoctoral, etc.).
To apply for this Grant, applicants must submit the following documents:
- Short CV in English (max 5 pages) including:
- Scopus ID
- Google Scholar profile
- Web of Science ResearcherID
- Career summary (max 400 words)
- Description of most significant achievements and relevance to the proposed project
- Five most important publications, including leadership role and justification of scientific impact
- Three most significant invited talks
- Academic degrees and previous professional appointments
• Letter (max 2 pages): explaining the evolution of the research trajectory leading to the central concept of the proposed project.
- Research project including objectives, originality, and ambitious character:
- Main body must not exceed 20 pages with references (excluding annexes/supporting documents).
- Must demonstrate potential advances at the frontier of knowledge and international competitiveness.
- Must show a solid basis for successful execution within the proposed timeframe.
• Fellowship activity description:
- The full proposal must clearly describe activities planned for each solicited fellowship (PhD, MSc, Scientific Initiation, Postdoctoral, etc.).
- For each requested fellowship: submit a one-page summary with objectives, work plan, and implementation schedule.
- Only one scholarship/fellowship per modality can be included.
• Budget items in SAGe:
- Applicants must provide vendor quotations for all capital equipment to be purchased in Brazil or abroad when value exceeds ten times the Brazilian minimum wage.
- Pro forma invoices are not required at this stage.
