
Masobe Books announced that they have acquired Sue Nyathi’s novel, The Polygamist, and will soon reissue to the public. They made the news on Monday, October 5, 2026, on their X. They wrote:
“Masobe Books is thrilled to announce the acquisition and reissue of Sue Nyathi’s novel, The Polygamist, a powerful tale about four women whose lives become intertwined when they all fall for a wealthy banking magnate, Jonasi Gomora. The work, now a major Netflix series, became one of the streamer’s biggest African hits upon irs release on June 12, 2026.”
The novel was first published in 2012, and has undergone different editions. The 193 pages novel explored Jonasi Gomora and four women. He is wealthy, attractive, successful and socially powerful, but beneath that image is a man with an enormous appetite for women and control. His relationships exist somewhere between marriage, secret relationships, infidelity, sexual exploitation and socially tolerated male privilege.
The novel also revolves around four women Joyce Gomora, who is his wife; the ambitious and educated Matipa who’s his mistress; Essie, his ex-girlfriend who dated him before he became rich and became his hidden second wife; and Lindani, who is younger and sees relationships partly through the lens of economic security and social advancement.
Masobe Books have been acquiring books, both novels and poetry, since they launched their Masobe Books App earlier this year. With a monthly subscription of seven thousand naira, readers get to read their favourite novels or fiction. There are different scale of the subscription.
