The Atlantic has opened applications for its 2027–2028 editorial fellowship, offering six early-career journalists the opportunity to spend a year working with the magazine’s newsroom in Washington, D.C. The fellowship is designed to give participants hands-on experience supporting The Atlantic’s journalism while developing their writing, editing and research skills. Applications close on November 5, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with the programme scheduled to run from July 2027 through June 2028.

Selected fellows will be embedded with teams across the newsroom, contributing to the publication’s editorial work while gaining a deeper understanding of the journalism industry. The programme places particular emphasis on professional development, allowing fellows to sharpen the skills required to work across reporting, research and editorial production. The fellowship therefore offers an early-career pathway into one of the United States’ longest-running literary and journalistic publications, which has historically published work across politics, culture, literature and public affairs.

The 2027–2028 cohort follows The Atlantic’s current fellowship class and will join the newsroom in Washington the following summer. Interested applicants are directed to The Atlantic’s careers page to submit their applications before the November 5 deadline. For emerging journalists looking to develop newsroom experience while working alongside professional editors and writers, the year-long fellowship offers an opportunity to build both editorial skills and a deeper understanding of contemporary journalism.
