Finding grants, literary magazine submissions, residencies and fellowships can be a time-consuming part of sustaining a creative practice. Missa, a new platform launched in beta by Nigerian creative Adedayo Agarau, aims to make that process easier by bringing nearly 3,000 open calls and opportunities for artists and writers into one place. Announced by Agarau on his birthday, the platform allows users to explore opportunities across several categories, including prizes, exhibitions, festivals and publications, helping creatives find places to submit their work and seek funding for their projects.
Beyond listing opportunities, Missa is designed to help users manage the administrative side of their creative careers. Users can find calls suited to their location and artistic practice, check eligibility requirements and entry fees, receive reminders before deadlines, and track submissions and responses. The platform says it links directly to organisers’ websites and does not fill in missing information: where an organiser has not listed a deadline or fee, Missa marks it as unavailable. Users can also keep private notes and saved opportunities. According to the platform, it does not sell personal data, run advertisements or use users’ creative work to train artificial intelligence models. As Missa is still in beta, users are encouraged to report incorrect or missing listings.
Missa addresses a familiar challenge for writers and other creatives: finding opportunities is one task, but keeping track of application requirements and deadlines is another. By consolidating listings and submission tracking, the platform aims to reduce the administrative burden that can take time away from making art. Its emphasis on directing users to organisers’ original pages also allows applicants to consult the official requirements before submitting. For writers seeking literary magazines, fellowships, prizes and residencies, Missa offers a central place to begin searching. The platform is available at usemissa.com.
