Recall that in May, Cheta’s stage play, Homecoming was premiered at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. After the successful premiere of ‘Homecoming’ at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, plans are currently on ground to take the play to Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State, Nigeria. The proposed venue for this performance is the famous Enugu Sports Club, located at No. 1 Club Road GRA, Enugu. The date and time will be released in the coming month by The Maestro Theatre Company. Homecoming tells the story of Nwakibe, a retired head teacher and catechist who embarks on a mission to find his missing son. It also revolves around Johnson, a writer, in search of a story, to write the great African novel and make a potential AMAA-winning film. The unpublished play was written by Cheta Igbokwe and directed by Ugochukwu Victor Ugwu. The play stars Kosiso Ejikeme, Aina Adeola, Lorenzo Menakaya, Adesunloye Oyindamola Samuel, Simon Ugwu, Chima @Okolo and Chudy-Mike. Since its premiere on May 6, 2021, ‘Homecoming’ has generated meaningful conversations and has enjoyed reviews published on The Nations Newspaper, Black Boy Review, Arts Lounge, and Afreecan Read. Most importantly, the performance and the tours are all attempts to revive the dying theatre practice in Nigeria. This post calls upon individuals or bodies who may wish to sponsor, support, or join the Executive Production League for the stage production of the play in Enugu capital.
