To be queer is difficult. To be queer and HIV positive is even more challenging. To commemorate Pride month, Arts Lounge Literary Magazine is seeking creative nonfiction and personal essays from Queer Nigerians living with HIV/AIDS.
The pieces will address long-term survival, recent infection, stigmatization within the Nigerian LGBTQ+ community, among others. The goal is to hear the voices of queer Nigerians living with HIV, to share in their pain, while creating awareness by telling their stories.
It is true that great measures have been put in place to tackle the treatment and social awareness of HIV/AIDS since the start of the 21st Century. However, the critical dialogue surrounding the triple stigmatization faced by queer people on account of their sexuality, gender, and health statuses seems to be relegated to the background.

This anthology seeks to expose this stigmatization queer people face in their communities, from friends and family, from medical practitioners, and even from other queer persons.
We are seeking entries that explore the intersectionationality of gender, sexuality the human condition with HIV/AIDS. We are interested in an array of topics that will provide a rooted understanding of the culture surrounded by HIV/AIDS. We are particularly interested in works that show how the lives of this set of people have been impacted by HIV/AIDS and to learn how HIV/AIDS is not a death sentence.
