The Nigeria Youth Future Fund, NFF, has opened a call for entries on the theme of “The Nigeria We Want,” to spoken word artists across Nigeria, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary.

Spoken word artists are advised to adhere strictly to the guidelines provided below:

Entry Criteria
1) You have to be between the ages of 16 and 35.
2) All entries must be the original work of entrants.
3) Before you start writing, go to https://www.nigeriayouthfund.org/2023/07/13/nigeria-we-want-2023/ and read through the report ‘The Nigeria We Want’.
4) Now write a spoken word piece titled ‘The Nigeria I Want,’ based on your own experiences and expectations as a young Nigerian, BUT make sure you reference the report you read in your piece. How you choose to do so is up to you.
5) Record a video of yourself performing the piece. Your video must NOT exceed 1-minute in length.
6) Post your video on your social media channels using the hashtag #TheNigeriaWeWant, and tag ng_youthfund.
7) Upload your video to your google drive. Make sure to grant access to the email address mentioned below.
8) Upon the successful posting and upload of video, send us an email with your name, proof of eligibility, google drive link, and link to social media posts. The email should be titled ‘Activating Youth Voices Online Spoken Word Poetry Contest’. Emails should be sent to simplypoetrynyffcontest@gmail.com. Entries open on Sunday 01 Oct 2023 and close on Sunday 29 Oct 2023 (4 weeks)
9) After the close of submissions, the entries will be judged and a shortlist of 5 selected. The shortlist will be announced latest by Monday 13 Nov 2023.
10) The selected 5 MAY be required to make a final submission on the same, or closely related, theme.
11) The winning submission will be selected on the following criteria – Originality of Message, Reference to the Nigeria We Want Report, Quality of Content and Delivery, Call to action (inspiring tangible steps towards achieving the vision of the Nigeria We Want), AND Volume of SM engagement.
12) The second runner up will receive a cash prize of N250k.
13) The first runner up will receive a cash prize of N500k.
14) The winner will receive a cash prize of N1m, and an invitation to perform at LEAP Africa’s Social Innovators Programs and Awards (SIPA) Night in Nov 2023.

This online spoken word contest is conceived and sponsored by the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (an initiative of LEAP Africa), and managed by Simply Poetry Ltd.

All personal information collected in the course of this contest is kept confidential, and not shared with any third parties, and deleted on completion of the contest.
