The Rani Ahilya Bai Anandvan Residency is open for applications from musicians, fine artists, writers, photographers, landscape architects, architects, town planners, painters, teachers, thinkers, and others engaged in creative and artistic pursuits to join its studio residency in Banaras, India. The residency welcomes applications from creatives regardless of age, gender, or sexual orientation.
Nestled among hibiscus, jasmine, bauhinia, and lemon trees, the residency features four independent air-conditioned apartments, each with two rooms, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. Outside, participants can enjoy the lush greenery and warm sunshine. The residency also has a small vegetable garden where fresh produce is harvested and served as part of the meals and salads. Be reminded that all meals at Anandvan Residency are vegetarian, and participants prepare their own meals.
The residency lasts for one month, and applicants can choose the month they wish to attend. For the July residency, the application deadline is July 31, while applications for the August residency close on August 31. Applications are accepted throughout the year.
Participants are required to pay a residency fee but also receive several benefits. The fee is €1,600 per month (£1,400 or US$1,800), which includes three vegetarian meals a day for six days a week. On holidays, including Sundays, participants either cook together or explore the city’s culinary offerings.
At the end of the residency, participants are encouraged to host an open studio and interact with schools and children by sharing their craft, experiences, and other valuable insights. Anandvan Residency says it will be happy to facilitate these engagements.
Applicants may apply either by email or through a Google Form. For more information, visit:
