The Max Weber Fellowships is open for its 2026 fellowship at the European University Institute, Italy. Candidates from all round who are based in one of these fields are encouraged to apply: humanities, social sciences, history, law, economics, and political sciences.

Applications are currently open and will close on September 1, 2026. Successful applicants may receive either a one-year fellowship or two-year fellowship. There could be an extension to the third if the fellows are within the department of Economics, as well fellows selected under the CIVICA Exchange Programme.
The fellowship offers funding for successful applicants. Fellows receive €2,500 stipend per month, family allowances and health insurance. Research based fellows receives personal research fund worth €1,500, mission funding for academic activities, research-related travel support, as well Assistant Professor Opportunity.
During the second year, eligible fellows may apply for a:
- 12-month Part-time Assistant Professor contract
- Additional net remuneration of approximately €850 per month
- Teaching responsibilities
- PhD mentoring experience
Applicants must note the following before applying. With an acceptance rate of less than 2%, the programme is highly competitive and attracts applications from exceptional scholars worldwide.
- Have completed a PhD within the previous five years.
- Be outstanding early-career researchers.
- Demonstrate strong academic excellence and research potential.
