The University of Bergen has opened call for applications for its four-year Postdoctoral Fellow in the at its Department of Economics. Selected fellows are accepted into full-time basis to enable them strengthen their research profile, contribute to teaching, and develop toward a future academic career, for a fixed-term contract for four years. Even though all economists can apply, the fellowship targets early-career economist.

Applications are currently open and they close on August 21, 2026. Successful applicants receives numerous benefits. The position carries a gross annual salary of approximately NOK 685,900 under salary code 1352 for postdoctoral research fellows. Higher remuneration may be considered for exceptionally well-qualified candidates, while further salary increases may depend on seniority. Of the total appointment, 25% is allocated to career development work at the Department.
Kindly notes that applicants must hold a Norwegian PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in economics. Those who are expecting to receive PhD after the deadline are welcome to apply too. But the PhD must be awarded before the fellowship commences. Kindly notes that applicants should have the following:
- A strong academic background in economics
- Demonstrated research capability
- Evidence of publication potential
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and systematically
- The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Additionally, proficiency in Norwegian and/or English, both written and spoken, is required. Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is considered an advantage.
