The Stellenbosch University has opened applications for the prestigious Harry Crossley Scholarship Programme 2027 which supports outstanding Master’s and Doctoral students pursuing their studies. Administered through the University’s Postgraduate Funding Office (PGFO), the scholarship aims to promote academic excellence while strengthening postgraduate research and innovation across multiple disciplines.

“The Harry Crossley Scholarship Programme is one of Stellenbosch University’s flagship postgraduate funding initiatives. It is designed to assist high-achieving students by covering key study-related expenses while providing opportunities for personal and professional development. The programme reflects the university’s commitment to supporting postgraduate researchers and enhancing South Africa’s research capacity.”

Applications are currently open and will close on September 30, 2026. Successful applicants receive financial support for tuition fees, assistance with accommodation costs, living allowance, access to personal development opportunities, and recognition for the scholarship. Each Master’s successful applicants will receive R150, 000 and funding for the maximum of two years, while Doctoral students receive R160, 000 and can be renewed for three years.

All fields can apply except political sciences and theology. Applicants should note the following:

  • Achieve a minimum academic average of 70% in their previous degree.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible Master’s or Doctoral programme.
  • Structured Master’s programmes with a thesis component of less than 50% of total credits are not eligible.
  • Third-year Master’s students are not eligible for funding.
  • Fourth-year Doctoral students are not eligible for funding.
