The Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) at the University of Cambridge is inviting applications for the CIRN Intesa Sanpaolo Visiting Fellowship 2026–2027. This prestigious fully funded opportunity is designed for an outstanding early career postdoctoral scholar whose research focuses on Italy.

The fellowship offers researchers the opportunity to spend one academic term in Cambridge, engage with the Cambridge Italian Research Network (CIRN), develop their own research, and organize an interdisciplinary academic colloquium around the annual research theme. For the 2026-2027 cycle, the fellowship theme is Italian Ecologies.

Researchers may explore themes related to environmental humanities, ecology, climate, landscape, sustainability, cultural heritage, literature, history, politics, urban environments, or other innovative approaches connected to Italy and ecological thought.

The successful fellow will reside in Cambridge, United Kingdom, for one academic term during the following period:

  • Residency: 27 April – 30 June 2027
  • Host Institution: CRASSH, University of Cambridge
  • Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom
  • The fellow is expected to live in Cambridge throughout the residency to fully participate in the programme’s academic activities.

The fellowship is intended for early career postdoctoral scholars from all round the world whose research has a strong focus on Italy. Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Early career postdoctoral status.
  • An outstanding research profile.
  • Research centred on Italy.
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary scholarship.
  • The ability to contribute to Cambridge’s collaborative research environment.
  • Capacity to organize an academic colloquium linked to the fellowship theme.
  • Researchers from relevant disciplines across the arts, humanities, and social sciences are encouraged to apply.

Eligible early career postdoctoral researchers should submit their application through the official CRASSH application portal. Applicants are encouraged to prepare a strong research proposal aligned with the Italian Ecologies theme and demonstrate how the residency will enhance their research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
