Rosemary Okafor, author of Akwaugo, has responded to conversations on X after readers identified Uzoamaka Power’s likeness on the cover of her independently published book, Ana Mma. The discussion began after someone shared the book while reading it, prompting users to point out that the cover appeared to use an animated version of an image Power had previously posted from an event. The author has since issued a statement acknowledging the use of the image and explaining how it came about.

According to the statement, the author had contacted Power about using her image but did not receive a response before proceeding with the book’s printing. Okafor said the decision was made out of excitement and poor judgement, and accepted responsibility for what she described as a careless mistake. She also clarified that the book has no publisher and was independently produced, meaning the publishing process was overseen personally by her.

Rosemary Okafor said she is now in communication with Power’s team and working towards an agreement and resolution. In the meantime, the book’s cover has been changed, with Okafor stating that all new copies will carry the replacement cover and that the previous version is no longer being used for new copies. The statement also called for an end to further attacks or insults while the matter is being addressed directly.
