Applications are open for the 2027 Toni Morrison Senior Fellowship in African Diaspora Literature and Cultural Studies at The Africa Institute (Global Studies University).
This fellowship is named in honor of the late Toni Morrison, a prolific woman of letters whose contributions to world literature, the humanities, and the understanding of the African American experience, expand beyond her novels and into incisive texts in cultural studies and critical theory.
Her contributions extend beyond her novels into cultural studies and critical theory. She received several prestigious accolades, including the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1977, Pulitzer Prize in 1988 and Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
Applications are open until September 30th, 2026. The fellowship is a one year, full-time residential fellowship based in Sharjah, UAE. To be eligible for this fellowship, applicants must be:
- Associate Professors or Full Professors at their home institutions.
- Independent authors who have earned critical recognition for their writings.
- Public intellectuals who have earned critical recognition for their writings.
- Applicants working in fields related to Africa, the African diaspora and culture.
