Red Deer, a company of the Government of Alberta, has opened a vacancy for the post of construction Engineer. The Construction Engineer will work closely with the organisation in providing sustainable transportation system.

The key responsibilities of the Construction Engineer at Red Deer are as follows:

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and administration of highway construction and rehabilitation projects from initiation to completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, and resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including planning, design, utility, environmental, and construction professionals.
  • Oversee engineering consultants and contractors to ensure contractual, technical, and performance requirements are met.
  • Review and provide technical input on designs, tender documents, specifications, and construction plans.
  • Administer construction contracts, including progress payments, change orders, cost control, and final contract closeout.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with engineering standards, environmental requirements, safety regulations, and departmental specifications.
  • Review utility conflicts, crossing agreements, and stakeholder requirements to support project delivery.
  • Conduct site visits and provide construction oversight, technical recommendations, and resolution of field issues.
  • Monitor project progress, expenditures, and risks, implementing corrective actions as required.
  • Lead project meetings and facilitate communication between consultants, contractors, stakeholders, and government agencies.
  • Resolve complex technical, contractual, and stakeholder issues through negotiation and collaboration.

Applications are currently open and will close on August 7, 2026. Successful applicants work for 36.25 hours per week, for a temporal 1 year. Their salary is $3,525.22 to $4,880.90 bi-weekly ($92,008 – $127,391/year). Applicants must possess:

• University degree in a related field (i.e. Bsc Civil Engineering, Applied Science or Geology or Geophysics) plus five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

• Eligibility for professional membership with APEGA as a P.Eng.

• Valid Class 5 Drivers License.

Where these documents are unavailable, directly related education or experience may be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
