Ensign Energy Services Inc. – 3.9 is hiring for drillers and Assistant Drillers. Located in Nisku, Alberta, the Drillers work with the team in drilling operations across the country. Their website defines drillers as those who:

“They are in charge of the operation of the rig and crew during their tour, and they are directly responsible to rig managers. They operate the drilling and hoisting equipment, and their duty station is normally the rig floor and driller’s console. This includes brakes, throttles, clutches and various gauges. By watching the various instruments and gauges closely, they can make adjustments as conditions require.”

  • Has adequate knowledge of Ensign Policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that employees, including subcontractors use correct safe work methods as identified with the Standard Operating Procedure, JSA or product guidelines
  • Ensures the crew and any contractors on location perform their jobs safely and efficiently and within the regulatory requirements of the industry
  • With the help of the crew and instrumentation, they must keep the circulation rate of the mud relatively constant. The circulation rate of the mud might change as a result of washouts in the drill string, possible lost circulation, or a potential kick.
  • Run or assist in running special tools into the hole for the purposes of logging, testing, coring or fishing for bits, bit cones or other portions of the drill stem lost in the hole. Specialists and/or service company personnel are available to help driller with these job
  • Train the crew to safely perform their duties and properly care for and maintain the rig and drill string

Applications are accepted until a more suitable candidate fills the space. To be eligible for this job, the applicant should possess the following qualifications:

  • Previous experience as floorhand, motorhand/lead floorhand, derrickhand
  • Progressive experience on a rig resulting in knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of each position and the understanding of proper drilling procedures and standards.
  • Well Control for Supervisory position
  • Associated training tickets for region and activity. These may include, but are not limited to: H2S Certification, First Aid, Confined Space, Fall Protection and Rescue.
  • Ensign’s HR/HSE Induction and assigned training per Regional Training Matrix
  • Any client specific training for site access
