Nigerian multidisciplinary artist Chigozie Obi is exhibiting a new body of work, Dreamscape, across two group exhibitions in Lagos. Part One is showing at Affinity Gallery in Victoria Island, while Part Two is featured in Crosscurrents and Affinities I at DADA Gallery, Ikoyi. Both exhibitions opened on Sunday, September 13, with Obi scheduled to be at Affinity Gallery from 2–3:30 p.m. and DADA Gallery from 4–6 p.m. The DADA exhibition, curated by Tony Agbapuonwu, brings together seven Nigerian artists across generations and will remain on view through October 31.

Born in 1997, Obi is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and digital illustration. Her practice is rooted in storytelling and focuses particularly on women and girls, identity, community, Igbo culture and the everyday experiences of Black women. She describes her work as a form of documentation and an archive of life, shaped in part by the loss of her mother in 2019 and her subsequent commitment to preserving ordinary and intimate moments. Obi has exhibited in Nigeria and internationally, including at 1-54 Art Fair in Marrakech, Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, Gasworks London and C+N Gallery in Genoa.

Obi’s work has received significant recognition in Nigeria’s contemporary art scene. She won the 2021 Access Bank ART X Prize, receiving a ₦1.8 million grant, a three-month residency at Gasworks in London and mentorship and support. She was also named a winner of The Future Awards Prize for Art in 2021 and received the Art.ng Grant for Visual Artists and Tilga Fund for Arts Grant in 2020. More recently, she was among the shortlisted artists for the 2026 G.A.S. Fellowship Award for Emerging Nigerian Artists. In Dreamscape, Obi continues her interest in personal experience, memory and emotional worlds, inviting audiences to “escape and dream” with her through the new works.
