The Adroit Journal has opened submissions for its 2026 Editor’s Prizes in Poetry & Fiction, recognizing exceptional unpublished work by mid-career writers from around the world.
The annual prizes award $1,000 each to one poet and one fiction writer, with the winning works published in The Adroit Journal’s October issue alongside the journal’s student prize winners.
Writers may submit 3 unpublished poems in a single document or one unpublished short story of up to 6,000 words. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, provided the journal is notified if the work is accepted elsewhere.
The competition welcomes writers of all nationalities and backgrounds, with particular encouragement for those who have published at least one book. Authors may enter both the poetry and fiction categories.
Submissions opened on July 1, 2026, and will remain open until July 31, 2026, or until submission caps are reached. The journal will accept only the first 500 poetry submissions and 300 fiction submissions, making early submission highly advisable. Also worth noting: writers can submit revised versions of work they’ve previously sent to the journal’s general submission windows or earlier Adroit Prize cycles, which is a nice option if you’ve got something in your drawer that didn’t make it the first time.
The entry fee is $15 per submission, with proceeds supporting The Adroit Journal’s editorial operations, contributor payments, and prize funding.
Results are expected to be announced in Fall 2026.
